women's house / competition
team: bernadetta budzik, kamila lorenc-ptasznik The design of the Senegalese women's house was inspired by the tradition of basket weaving. This activity, which was traditionally done by women, allowed us to reinterpret a typical public building. By combining modules, we can create furniture and partion walls, they may open up or close down the visual connection between the inside and outside by closing the building completely or opening it. That gives us the definition of a spatial configuration that is as versatile and free as possible. Users can create infinite variety of enclosed spaces depending on their needs. The form and layout of the Woven House can change every day, adapting to current needs in community. The construction of roof and load-bearing walls allows to create a totally independent structure, whose modularity provides extreme versatility.
