bazaar europa / bachelor thesis
thesis supervisor: dr inż. arch. bartosz dendura The design concept of the Europa Bazaar is located on the border bridge over the Lausitzer Neiße (Nysa Łużycka) as a symbol of the connection of two countries, this also responds to the problem of social and transport exclusion, noticed especially in smaller, border towns. The lack of bridges and connections in small Polish and German cities is a serious barrier hindering the integration of the two nations. The name "Bazar Europa-Basar Europa" refers to "Europa Fair" (pol. Jarmark Europa) market existing in Poland in the 90's, one of the biggest and most multicultural fair/market in Europe. „Bazar Europa” takes from already existing tradition of „Polenmarkt” (Polish markets)- marketplaces that originated in the 80s, in the border area. They were one of first places where Poles and Germans could meet and trade goods. Polenmarkts still exist, they are lively meeting places with various services, although their technical condition has deteriorated over the years. Bazar Europa-Basar Europa is an attempt at a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Polenmarkts.
